Recent progress in genetics of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

چکیده
Introduction Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine with lateral curvature combined with vertebral rotation. Occurrence of a melatonin signaling dysfunction in cells derived from patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) was reported by Moreau et al. It was shown that serine phosphorylation of Gi proteins α-subunits was involved although the source of such aberrant phosphorylation remains unknown. The goal of this research project is to identify the kinase(s) and/or phosphatase(s) involved in the melatonin signaling defect observed in AIS. We have used a candidate gene driven approach and found the Tyrosine Phosphatase x (PTPx) and a second molecule termed HSJ-1, which controls the activity of this tyrosine phosphatase.

Comparison of Respiratory Muscle Electromyography between Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis and Healthy Subjects
Purpose: Scoliosis is one of the most common spinal deformities that affect chest wall mechanics. Scoliosis results in ventilator disorders and respiratory muscle weakness. However, the mechanism of these disorders is still unknown. The main objective of this study was to identify the intensity of respiratory muscles activity in patients with idiopathic scoliosis compare with healthy indi...
متن کاملEvaluation of Patient Outcome and Satisfaction after Surgical Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Using Scoliosis Research Society-30
Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) may lead to physical and mental problems. It also can adversely affect patient satisfaction and the quality of life. In this study, we assessed the outcomes and satisfaction rate after surgical treatment of AIS using scoliosis research society-30 questionnaire (SRS-30). Methods: We enrolled 135 patients with AIS undergoing corrective surgery...
متن کاملGenomic study of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in Japan
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a common disease. It is a multi-factorial (polygenic) disease controlled by genetic and environmental factors. Studies searching for genetic factors of AIS using linkage and association analyses have been conducted and several susceptibility genes have been reported. This paper reviews the recent progress in the genome-wide association study of AIS in Ja...
متن کاملAssessment of Coronal Radiographic Parameters of the Spine in the Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Background: To determine the most important preoperative factors that affect postoperative coronal parameters of scoliotic curves. Methods: All Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) patients included in the study were classified according to Lenke and King Classification. The fusion levels were selected according to the rigidity of the existing curves (correction less than 50%), tilt...
متن کاملGenetics of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
A genetic family study was undertaken by photofluorography of the first, second, and third degree relatives of 116 index patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The index patients were ascertained in the course of an epidemiological screening. The pattern of familial clusters and the recurrence risk related to the number of affected relatives and to the severity of the disorder in ...
